Seraphina Diaries

2024 John Dix Workshop Reflections

We had a fantastic experience at West Michigan Clay & Pottworks Studio hosting the talented potter, John Dix!

John is a Michigan native and ceramic artist educated in his home state, now resides in Kobe, Japan, where he operates studios in both Kobe and Sasayama. Inspired by regional pottery traditions such as Tamba, Iga, and Bizen, John incorporates local clays and fires his creations in an anagama kiln at Fieldwork, Japan. His work is showcased in exhibitions across Japan and internationally.

John led engaging workshops on wadding pieces, creating thrown and hand-built forms, showed us how to have a good time, and helped fire our kiln, Seraphina. Ceramists from around the world came to participate, work hard, and make forever friendships. It was a truly inspiring event! ‘Til next time!
